Following industry consultation from July 2014 individuals working in the Education and Care Sector are required to undergo training in the HLTAID012 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting.

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.  HLTAID012 applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

Course outcomes contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulation (2011). This unit of competency has been approved by ACECQA and meets the requirements of First Aid, Asthma & Anaphylaxis.

It focuses on medical emergencies that may be unique to small children and also provides an understanding of physical differences between children and adults and how the first aider may need to take a different approach when managing an ill or injured child.

The Provide First Aid in an Educational Setting Certificate is valid for three years.
