UQ Ventures 2025 – Friday, 9 May

GTT recently had the privilege of hosting students from Goondiwindi State High School, St Mary’s School, and Border Rivers Christian College for the University of Queensland (UQ) Ventures Design Sprint. This engaging event offered local students the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship and innovative thinking while addressing real-world challenges in their own community.
The UQ Ventures Design Sprint is part of UQ’s broader commitment to making education and opportunity accessible to all Queenslanders. Through this initiative, UQ aims to equip young people with critical thinking skills and an entrepreneurial mindset, empowering them to become problem-solvers and leaders. At GTT, we share this vision, recognising the importance of providing young people with opportunities to develop skills that are essential for future success.
Working in mixed groups, students were encouraged to identify issues they believed were impacting Goondiwindi. A variety of topics were explored, but the need for more activities and spaces for teenagers emerged as a clear priority. Other groups focused on improving local medical and essential services and exploring solutions for large corporations exploiting local resources with no benefit to our local economy.
Guided by local business leaders and councillors, students used the design sprint methodology to brainstorm, prototype, and refine their ideas. This hands-on approach helped them not only understand the value of creative problem-solving but also develop practical skills in teamwork, leadership, and communication.
GTT is proud to collaborate with UQ in providing such valuable learning experiences for local students. By connecting young people with education, industry, and community leaders, we help them build the skills and confidence needed to shape a brighter future for Goondiwindi and beyond.
As a local leader in education and training, GTT remains committed to fostering innovation and lifelong learning within our community. We look forward to continuing our partnership with UQ Ventures and supporting similar initiatives that empower our region’s youth.
